Twenty-eight Silver Dolphin Eight-and-Unders packed their bags and made the journey down into Ohio territory, traveling to the C. David Howell Natatorium in Worthington, Ohio on a chilly March weekend. There, even though the weather outside was cold, the racing done by the Lake Erie Silver Dolphin swimmers made the building’s insides HOT! Bringing only the fourth biggest team to the competition (Upper Arlington had 46 athletes, and both Worthington and Dublin 43), LESD once again proved it’s not the size of the dog -- er, dolphin -- in the fight . . . .

We competed with over 210 other swimmers from 16 other (mostly Ohio) teams. The outcome was in doubt throughout the entire course of the meet, and was decided by the relays at the end of the last day. When the bubbles cleared, the final top team tallies were: LESD 889, Upper Arlington 855.5, Worthington 711, Washington Township 613.5, and Dublin 582.5 It was close!

Fine performances were turned in by all in attendance, but some need special notice. Michael Cerer won the 6&U Boys High Point award, taking first in his age group’s 100 IM and 25 Fly. Dane Bozsvai won the 7 yo Boys High Point award, taking first in that age group’s 50 Free, 25 Back, 25 Fly, and 50 Breast. Crile Hart won runner-up high point award in the 8 yo Girl’s age group, getting top honors in 25 Free, 50 Back, and 25 Back.

First place finishes were additionally turned in by 7 yo Madison Gotlieb (25 Breast); the Boys 7&U 100 Free Relay of Dane Bozsvai, Cole Fallon, Michael Cerer, Austin Bruck; and the same four boys in the 100 Medley Relay also.

Finishing in the top 12 in either individual events or relays and thus earning trophies or ribbons and scoring points for the team were also: Gigi Vollmer, Ally Marchewitz, Karen Steinbauer, Zeb Hart, Jamie Schmidt, Zachary Vexler, Claire Cerne, Braden Pearlstein, Jaret Ross, Zachary Zinda, Tavi Effron, Eli Kaufman, Josh Margulies, Peter Kaiser, Graham Lane, and Quinn Kennedy.

Coach Cheryl and Coach Paul wish to thank all the parents who attended and kept the swimmers fed, rested, and focused. We had no swimmer miss an event, and no swimmer become ill either! Special thanks to Melanie Gotlieb for reserving the block of LESD rooms and doing all the work for Saturday’s team dinner, and to Angela Cerne for making the goodie bags for the kids along with the individual hand-signs for all athletes. Thank you so much!

As usual, the team trophy will circulate through all the participating swimmers.  You are asked to keep it for a day or two, and then return it to practice so that the next participant can do the same.  Reds and Whites, please be patient; we are starting with Blue group swimmers first!
