THE DOLPHIN

                                                          January 2005

This newsletter is dedicated to those that have come to realize that swimming is a way of life.

Plain Talk

The holidays are behind us, and with them a month full of meets, good practices, and some time to relax.  We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, time away from school, and more time spent with family.  The coaches would like to thank all the swimmers and parents for the many gifts received during the holidays.  We are looking forward to the New Year and second half of the season with great anticipation.

We again would like to remind the families to call the message service on a daily basis (216-561-3423) to check for cancellations and schedule changes.  It is important that the swimmer make every practice this time of year, but safety is a priority.  If you deem driving conditions unsafe, avoid the risk.   The flu season is upon us in full force.  It is important for the swimmer to get plenty of rest, eat nutritional foods, drink liquids from your own container, and avoid people who are not well.

LESD Ronald McDonald Intrasquad Meet

Kudos to all who attended the 2004 LESD Intrasquad meet and helped to make it such a success! There were over 40 swimmers in attendance, and the parents packed the stands!

Many thanks to all the parents who brought in food, drink, and other needed items to give the occasion a festive "flavor".   Many fine times were turned in -- several swimmers getting B and even BB times! A special note to a number of the 8&Under Boys and Girls who insisted on swimming 50’s (rather than 25s) in their age groups to try and get that NAG time -- Katie, Jubilee, Lena, Danielle, Alex, Henry, Nathan, and Skylar, we are impressed!

In a similar light we also witnessed a display of swimming prowess (*ahem) by the parents. In the Women’s heat we saw a fine performance in which a hand-touch finish proved the deciding factor -- a bow to Mrs. Schambs there. In the Men’s division there were two heats, and Mr. Tompkins and Mr. Harrison figured highly in each.

The Coach’s Relay of Coach Betsy (Back), Coach Cheryl (Breast), Coach Paul (Fly), and Mr. Thompkins (Free) proved a winning combination. The swimmers have vowed for a rematch next year!  The meet brought in over $400 for the Ronald McDonald House! We sincerely thank all who participated and contributed to make this event such a success.
