Mark Braun
Special thanks to Amanda Kiel for the great success of the
2004 Mark Braun Classic and to all the Dolphin parents contributing to make it
happen. Your hours of work and dedication on the pool deck were indispensable.
There are a handful
of people who worked on the meet months before the big weekend. Marie Salibra
made sure that all of our own swimmers were entered in the meet correctly. She
also organized the computers with all of the software and brought them down to
Jim Aronoff printed our name tags again with LESD logo and
all! And then there were all of the Pop ladies who wrangled a 12- pack out of

Every
year LESD has a holiday intrasquad meet (only LESD swimmers and families
invited) which raises money for the University Hospital Ronald McDonald House.
The fee is of $ 5 per participant (swimmer, sibling, parent, coach). The meet is primarily for Red, White, and
Blue swimmers -- in lieu of practice that Saturday for each of these
three groups, all said swimmers are asked to participate in the Intrasquad
meet. Events are as follows: for
all 6&Unders, a 25 of each stroke; for all 7-8 year olds, a 25 of each
stroke, for all 9-10 year olds a 50 of each stroke, and for all 11-12 year olds
a 50 of each stroke. Afterwards there will be the "Mom’s race" (a 25
free) and then the "Dad’s race" (also a 25 free). This will be followed
by the "Coaches’ Relay Races" where the coaches challenge all comers
(make you own relay!) to a 100 Medley Relay race. After the "meet"
portion of the event is over, we will have 1/2 hour of "free play"
for all participants. You may bring rafts and inflatable for this time. We ask
that you bring no "hard" objects or balls -- any soft
"nerf" item is perfectly acceptable. There
will be meet participant ribbons handed out to all non-adult swimmers. There
will be no officials and no DQ’s at this meet -- however, there will be no
stars or bars awarded then either. We would like to have a parent timing behind
each lane; please be prepared to volunteer in this fashion. Warm - ups for youth at
Remember, the will be
no Red, White or Blue swim practice that Saturday -- the Intrasquad meet is your
practice for that day. Please join us and have fun!
Meet Results Wrap-Ups
Peg Neal Pentathlon
The Silver Dolphins had their usual good showing at the Peg
Neal Pentathlon. Over seventy Dolphins
came out on Halloween to show how versatile they were. The 10 & under girls were led by Kelsey
Pinkerton, Emily Gaudiani, and Stephanie Nemeth. All three girls finished in the top 8 in all
their events, with Gaudiani winning the 50 breast and Nemeth winning the 100 IM. In the 11-12 girls, Alana Arnold picked up
wins in the 50 fly and 100 IM, and Megan Splain came away with the 50
breast. The 13-14 girls dominated the
competition by winning every event.
Emily Splain picked up the top spot in the 100 free, 100 back, and 100
fly. Brittany Rospierski claimed the top
spot in the 100 breast and 200 IM. Laura
Clark was the only champion in the 15 & over girls, leading the way in the
200 IM. It should be noted that our
girls managed to win the individual medley in every age group. Nice job ladies!
Although
the club had only 18 boys at the meet, they still managed to make their
presence known. KJ Stang stole the show
for the 10 & under boys. He was the
only swimmer in the meet to win every event in their age group (50 free, 50
back, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 100 IM).
Way to go KJ! The 11- 12 boys
were led by Mike Gaudiani, who placed in the top 8 in every event, with his

senior swimmers. As usual, it brought
stiff competition from all over the east. Even though our athletes were still in hard
training, they performed well and raced hard.
Friday night was led by some good early season swims from
the 13-14 girls. They claimed 5 of the
top 10 spots in the 400 IM. Alyssa Kiel

PARENTS, YOUR
IMMEDIATE ATTENTION IS REQUIRED:
Please read carefully this
communication received from Lake Erie Swimming:
Meet Entry Times - As clubs begin to send meet
entries, please remember that Lake Erie Swimming passed legislation to check
times for "slower than" and "faster-than" time standards.
Faster-than meets will be checked after the meet for
swimmers that do not make the qualifying time and do not have a qualifying time
in the LE Times database. A time
verification report will be emailed after the meet to clubs having swimmers who
appear on the Times Verification Exception List. Clubs will have one week to
either prove the time or be assessed a $10/swim fee. Slower-than meets will be handled by Lake
Erie Swimming Time Investigation until the electronic software (being
programmed by USA Swimming) is available. Anyone can anonymously ask that a
swimmer be investigated if it appears
that they have a faster time than is allowable for the slower-than meet time
qualification. This form is available
through the meet host or a brief note can be sent to Pam Cook. If a swimmer is found to be incorrectly
entered into a slower-than meet, a fee of $25 will be assessed.
Swimmers should be entered in meets that are appropriate to
the times they have achieved.
Example: B swimmers should not be
entered in A meets, A swimmers should not be entered in B meets. Bottom line:
Adhere to the time standards for the meets when entering swimmers in
events and use times that they have achieved.
If you have entered a swimmer in a meet and then they achieve a time
which is faster than the qualifying time, please notify the meet host and
remove them from that event. You will be
allowed to enter them in another event or receive a refund.
