Silver Dolphins represented Clevleand in the 39th International Children's
Games held in Coventry, England: Alana
Arnold, David and Jennifer Aronoff, Mike Gaudiani, Louise Gliga, Zach Melvin,
Brittany Rospierski, and Courtney Tumbush.
Facing
strong competition from athletes from over 50 cities and 30 countries, LESD
swimmers performed extremely well.
Brittany, Alana, Louise, Courtney and Mike all placed in finals and
Jennifer won Bronze in the 100 breast and silver in both the 50 breast and 200
IM, the first Cleveland athlete to win a medal in competition held outside the
United States. In addition, the 400 free
relay of Alana, Brittany, Courtney, and Jennifer placed 4th, narrowly missing
an additional bronze medal.
Lake Erie/ Ohio
Senior Meet
The LESD swimmers established
themselves as the number one senior team in the state. They scored over 2,400 points to the
Cincinnati Marlins 1,200 points and Greater Columbus 1,150 points. The girls won every relay and were led by the
following winning first places: Laura
Clark in the 400IM, Alyssa Kiel in the 400 free and 200 IM, Diana Munz in the
800 free and 1500 free, Fiona O’Donnell McCarthy in the 100 back, Lauren Preyss

Jennifer Nemeth and Brittany Strumbel.
The senior boys placed third on the
200 free relay, eight in the 200 medley relay, second in the 800 free relay,
and sixth in the 400 free relay. The
meet was very rewarding.
Vacationland
Open Water
The open water swimmers did very well. We had several first places including Emily
Gaudiani in the 10 & under, Casey Glassman in the 13&14, Laura Clark in
the 15 & Over, Mike Gaudiani in the 11 & 12. Other swimmers placing in the top ten were:
Stephanie Nemeth, Kaitlin Clark, Micah Simpson, Daniel Nemeth, Chris Nemeth,
Tim Montague and Jeff Montague. The open
water races are one of my favorite races and are highly beneficial for
swimmers. Good job swimmers!
Richard G. Boehm
Buffalo
Dolphin swimmers were in action July 14-17 at the
Richard G. Boehm Invitational in Buffalo, New York. Our athletes continued their tradition of
success at this meet by capturing the overall team title for the second time in
a row. LESD totaled 2,797 points,
outdistancing the Jersey Wahoos, STAR Swimming, and
Berkley Aquatic Club.
On the girl’s side, Emily Gaudiani led the way by
winning the 9-10 girls high point award.
Emily had numerous victories, including the 50 and 100 breast, 200 free, and 200 IM. Emily was not the only 9-10 girl scoring
points. In most finals, LESD swimmers
accounted for at least half of the field and finished 1-2 in both the
200
free and 200 medley relays. Carrie
Bencic, Sarah Koucheki, Caroline Vexler, Emily Gudbranson, Haley Schubert, and
Taylor Forsythe were all consistently in the top eight. Amanda Trau and Kelsey Csumitta also
contributed on relays.
In the 11-12 girls, Megan Splain and Annie Holy
finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the high point
competition. Megan finished 1st
in the 50 and 100 breast, 200 free, and 200 IM.
Annie took the top spot in the 50 and 200 fly, while Lauren Choban did
the same in the 200 back. Dana Shaker,
Laura Tramer, Jackie Miozzi, Brooke Bieganski, Carmella Boggess, Amanda
Thurman, Kelsey Pinkerton, Meggie Pernsteiner, Kayleigh Fischietto, and Sam
Santoscoy all placed in the top eight in individual or relay events. Like the 9-10 girls, the 11-12 girls were
victorious in the 200 free, 400 free, and 200 medley relays.
Although they were the smallest age group for our
girls competing, the 13-14 girls still turned out some very good swims. Courtney Tumbush was consistently in the top
eight, highlighted by 2nd place finished in the 400 free, 1500 free,
and 400 IM. Other girls finishing the in
the top 8 were Emily Splain, Maryn Bieganski, Erica Gliga, and Stacey
Miozzi. Lisa Choban and Margaret Wu also
competed well in all of their events.
